1965Posted by Melissa W. (Warsaw, Indiana, United States) on 26 March 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio. These old cars belong to a friend of mine. Her husband collects and restores them...these are some of the leftovers. I found that photographing cars is much more challenging than it looks. March 2008.

Bonj from Jefferson City, United StatesVery nice lighting and color. Okay mam, can we see your license and registration. I think you might be driving on expired plates. ;-) 26 Mar 2008 11:16am @Bonj: Very cute. ;) Thanks for the chuckle...your comment cracked me up. @MaryB: Thank you, Mary. danthro from Suburbia, United Statesgreat shot. really like the composition, detail, texture, Light (of course), processing. my eye does tend a little bit to be pulled down toward the bottom left, i think 'cause it's dark, but then moves back up towards the license plate. 26 Mar 2008 4:55pm Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaGreat shot, the angles are spot on, which make this an interesting shot, again a lovely picture. 26 Mar 2008 7:21pm Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesAnother great one, Melissa. The really interesting thing about the plate is that the shape of the area that all the text is in is the shape of Chevrolet's logo (kind of...). 26 Mar 2008 9:16pm @Ron: You're right it does resemble the logo...funny. Wysterior from Kloten, SwitzerlandYeah so great Melissa, I love the rusty details. Well seen!! 26 Mar 2008 9:44pm Gary from Cochise County, United StatesYour killing me. How do you get that light to be perfect for these car shots. You really capture a mood with it. 27 Mar 2008 1:21am @Gary: I don't know...I just walk around and look how the light falls on the cars and then compose a shot that I would like to see...I know I'm not saying this right, but I tend to notice the light first then the subject...I can't explain it. I've thought about going back out there this weekend since I have the weekend off (I'm a RN and work every weekend) and try getting some early morning light shots...so we'll see. Will from Gainesville, United Statesanother cool shot...love the textures and details:) 28 Mar 2008 3:15am @Will: Thank you, Will, for all the comments. I'm glad you like these. :) GJC from Kyoto, JapanAnother good one with excellent light. I might have cropped it right at the "O" to give the left edge a little more impact. Just a thought. 28 Mar 2008 3:39am @GJC: Thank you so much for the suggestion. I will definitely try that crop. Thank you. Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsSplendid "Those were the days!"- picture! In 1965 I was in the Dutch army, sweet memories, when the Soviet threat maintained peace in the world and we soldiers didn't need to risk our lives in far-away deserts! 28 Mar 2008 11:57am amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaTHE only way to shoot a bumper!! Excellent!! Was it a Biscayne by any chance? It looks like the old Chev Biscayne bumper... yes, I had one as a teen and her name was "Old Betsy". LOL 28 Mar 2008 2:08pm @amy: I'm not sure...the next time I'm there I'll have to check it out. :) Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesDrawing a car accurately can be challenging too. I can draw credible portraits of people much more easily than I can cars. 29 Mar 2008 3:19pm @Twelvebit: I unfortunately cannot draw either subject; I wasn't blessed with the ability to paint or draw like my dad, but I've always had an appreciation for it. Photography is my way of nurturing my creative side...sometimes we take what we get and learn to live with it. ;) Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesI don't believe you can't draw. I didn't think I could either until I tried, as part of my photography, after I'd turned 40. What I've learned is that drawing is almost entirely a matter of perception and "seeing" rather than mechanical skill. I highly recommend the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." The author says that if you can write your name you can draw, and I believe she is right (and she demonstrates the truth of this claim in the book). 31 Mar 2008 3:37am @Twelvebit: Alright, you've talked me into it...I find her theory about writing your name and drawing intriguing. My library has a copy of it so I'll check it out. Thanks for the encouragement; I'll definitely give it a try. |
