drphoto from Newcastle upon Tyne, United KingdomWow, stunning shot. I like this one better than the first one. She looks so comfortable in front of the camera - she must to be used to that lens pointing her way by now lol! Her eyes look amazing, well shot! Dan 4 Apr 2008 9:53am Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesAnother sweet one, Melissa. Here's a bit of unsolicited commentary ... in the first shot of M you had her turned with her face bathed equally in that soft light. Here she's turned and there's more of a defined demarkation between soft light and shadow – which isn't overwhelming and certainly doesn't blow the pic. But (here's my suggestion) you might try placing a piece of white poster board or foam core on the floor in front and to M's left (your right) tilted upward to bounce a little soft fill light onto the shadow side of her face. I've been playing around with this technique on some shots I've been doing in my basement ... seems to even out the light a bit. Now, having said all that, I'll just finish up by saying, once again, that you are the master of the 50 mm and I bow in respect to your prowess. Your faithful fan ... r 4 Apr 2008 10:46am paulski from Muncie, United StatesVery nice. Quite possibly my favorite of the portraits so far. Excellent sharness, love the relaxed, natural expression. Thanks for sharing! 4 Apr 2008 11:54am Dimitrios from ATHENS, GreeceSHE IS LOVELY, reminds me of my daughter many many years ago, SUPERB portrait. 4 Apr 2008 2:43pm Mikel Bilbao from Bilbao, SpainFantastic photo!! 4 Apr 2008 3:38pm Mikel Bilbao from Bilbao, SpainFantastic photo!! 4 Apr 2008 3:39pm danthro from Suburbia, United Statesanother excellent portrait! i really like this one, on top of the nice execution and light and processing. i wonder if it's influenced by the fact that i know the subject is the photographer's niece, because i sort of imagine she looks like a kid sitting up in her chair excited to listen to something an adult she looks up to, ie her aunt, is saying. 4 Apr 2008 7:23pm chakrapani from Hyderabad, IndiaYour niece is a natural.. And yes !! SO Are you.. I have always loved ur portraits :) 4 Apr 2008 7:33pm standley from brou-sur-chantereine, FranceAnother superb portrait of your niece. Amazing lighting! 4 Apr 2008 8:38pm Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaStunning, as I've said before this is your forte. The warmth of this shot is fantastic. 4 Apr 2008 9:01pm Suzanne Labbé from Granby, CanadaWonderful portrait and she is so cute. Bravissimo. 4 Apr 2008 11:05pm akarui from Kagoshima, JapanYou have a beautiful model. The eye contact is wonderful... 5 Apr 2008 1:36am GJC from Kyoto, JapanThis is magnificent. I'm so impressed. You clearly know what you're doing, so take my suggestion and throw it in the trash, but: how about cropping it along the left side so that it comes to her hair (or to where you no longer have the plant in the frame). I have no objection to the plant (indeed in another I thought it was quite impressive) but it just might emphasize even more the beautiful light you've captured. Just an idea. This is really impressive work. 5 Apr 2008 7:25am @GJC: I actually tried a crop similar to the one you described, but still wasn't able to get the entire plant out of the picture. I would have had to clone the rest of the plant out. I also didn't want a tighter crop because I liked how the light looked on the chair. I also liked the little bit of contrast the plant provided...so I kept it. I'm thrilled that you are impressed; that is a great compliment coming from someone as talented as you. I've only been doing this since September; I greatly appreciate all your words of encouragement and support (and more importantly your suggestions). :) Edward James from Derry, United StatesThese are all brilliant portraits. You used the light to your advantage, that's for sure! I'm jealous haha. 5 Apr 2008 1:42pm Gary from Cochise County, United StatesHi Melissa, I'm just now able to do a little catchin up. I really like the lighting just the way it is, This is another beautiful portrait. 6 Apr 2008 7:16am @Gary: Thank you so much, Gary. After much thought, I like it the way it is, too. :) sandrine from United StatesBeautiful portrait! Sweet expression and lovely light! 6 Apr 2008 8:37pm Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsAlso very beautiful, she "sticks well on paper" (Dutch people say this when somebody does it well on photos)! Her look isn't "posing", she looks in a lens as if in someone's eyes, a talent model, that's what she is. 7 Apr 2008 7:02pm Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesBeautiful girl. Beautiful eyes. Sharp portrait. 8 Apr 2008 3:53pm |
