Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaGorgeous image Melissa - I love the branches around the edges, they really add a feeling of desolation and sadness to this image - this is really beautiful 18 Apr 2008 6:27am Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesBeautiful shot, Melissa. The bare branches around the edge do add a dark starkness to this beautifully illuminated statue on what, I assume, is a gravestone. Now that I look a bit closer ... it appears that she might be leaning on an anchor with her left hand. Maybe she is the goddess of the sea ... and this family (to which the stone belongs) had a connection to work on Lake Michigan? Very interesting nonetheless! 18 Apr 2008 10:51am @Ron: Good eye, Ron...she is leaning on an anchor. I'm not sure of the connection. Lake Michigan is a couple hours away, but there are many lakes here in Kosciusko County...I find that anchor really interesting, may have to do a little research. GJC from Kyoto, JapanMarvelous use of a muted set of complementary colors to focus attention on the statue. The "framing" of he branches is very effective, as others have already said and I also like the clarity. Lovely. 18 Apr 2008 2:04pm Observing from Chester, United KingdomSuper image, great exposure and sharpness. 18 Apr 2008 3:03pm Jrask from Pasadena, United StatesBeautiful composition Melissa, the lighting is perfect! 18 Apr 2008 3:11pm drphoto from Newcastle upon Tyne, United KingdomExcellent image. I like the use of the branches as 'framing' but mostly I'm impressed with your exposure on this - the tones in the shadows at the bottom of the statue are silky smooth - beautiful. Dan 18 Apr 2008 4:06pm Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaBeautiful shot, love how you've used the branches to form a natural frame. 18 Apr 2008 7:22pm standley from brou-sur-chantereine, FranceSuperb composition with this natural framing. I like the light/shadow play! 18 Apr 2008 8:29pm danthro from Suburbia, United Statesvery well captured. great light, of course. i like the soft vignette a lot too. also like the detail and textures of the statue and how it's framed by the tree branches. good work! 18 Apr 2008 9:19pm Gary from Cochise County, United StatesVery emotional, Melissa. That's not always easy to capture. Nice work. 19 Apr 2008 2:23am @Gary: I wasn't expecting that kind of response. I'm glad you found this moving. As always, thank you so much. |
