Grandpa (2009)Posted by Melissa W. (Warsaw, Indiana, United States) on 22 February 2009 in People & Portrait. This is my attempt at off-camera lighting. I asked my grandpa if he'd be willing to be my guinea pig and sit for some portraits while I worked on lighting. He said, "sure...let me put my teeth in, but I don't feel like shaving." That made me chuckle. I told him that I'd take him any ol' way...it didn't matter if he was scruffy or not, with teeth or without. Last month, my external hard drive, which was initially my back up drive that quickly turned into a main drive that stored ALL of my images, died. I had some images backed up on DVDs, but sadly not all. I knew that I needed to purchase another HD for a back up, but never got around to it. All of my vacation photos and most of my personal family photos were stored on that drive, and are now gone. Needless to say, I've learned a VERY valuable lesson. Because of this, I intend to take more photos of my family and keep those images safe. Strobist info: Canon 430EX speedlite fired via Canon ST-E2 into a 43" Westcott white satin umbrella camera right...ambient light camera left. I had the speedlite on manual and adjusted the light settings according to the histogram on my LCD.
